Hygiene

Are you brushing and flossing regularly? As your family dentist in Ahwatukee, we care about your oral health. An integral part of maintaining good oral hygiene is regular brushing and flossing. For optimal oral health, brushing and flossing at home is beneficial, but more is needed.

We view a preventative approach to dental care as a partnership between you and our team. Working together, we can preserve the natural health of your teeth and gums for a beautiful lifelong smile! Protect your smile with regularly scheduled hygiene appointments with Dr. Le, your family dentist in Ahwatukee.

Your role in Preventative care

Your role in the oral health partnership is good oral hygiene care and a balanced diet. What does that include?

  • Brush at least twice a day - We say brush your teeth, but maybe we should say ‘brush your mouth!’ Be sure to reach all the way to the back molars and remember to brush your tongue too!
  • Floss Daily - Before bed, floss your teeth to remove the plaque between your teeth. Follow your evening flossing with a thorough brushing to remove any particles left behind.
  • Reduce plaque buildup after meals - If possible, brush your teeth after eating and drinking. Unable to brush after eating? Give your teeth a good rinse with water to minimize the time sugar and acid have contact with your teeth.
  • Enjoy a healthy teeth diet - A balanced diet with minimized sugar, and highly acidic foods and drinks are right for your teeth and healthy for your body!

Now that you know your part in preventative care, it’s our turn to help you stay healthy!

Working together for your health!

Whether you’ve been diligently brushing and flossing for years or are just starting to focus on better oral health, Dr. Le is your family dentist in Ahwatukee ready to help! When you’re new to our offices, we’ll start your preventive visit by establishing your oral health baseline.

The ‘getting to know you’ phase is all about you. We can review your medical and dental histories and discuss your oral health goals. Tell us your dental concerns and be sure to share any symptoms you’re currently experiencing. Has it been a while since you’ve been to the dentist? That’s ok! Now that we’re working together, good oral health is sure to be in your future!

Keys to making our partnership a success:

  • Clinical examination - The exam will include an oral cancer screening, periodontal, evaluation, and an analysis of your occlusion (bite). We also check the foundation of your smile by examining your teeth, their supporting structures, and the complete orofacial area. If x-rays are needed, we’ll take care of them during your exam.
  • Professional cleaning - During your professional cleaning, Dr. Le & the hygienist will use special tools to remove plaque and tartar build up. We will get inside the hard to reach areas and clean out the spaces in between your gums and teeth.
  • Periodontal cleaning - If you are suffering from gum disease or early gum disease, your Ahwatukee family dentist will do a deep cleaning. In some cases, this includes periodontal scaling or root planing to clean bacteria out of the pockets around your teeth. We also offer laser therapy for your gums. This helps to remove infected or inflamed gum tissues and will optimize gum healing. Laser therapy works in conjunction with medicated flushing to reduce gum disease bacteria in the gum pockets & for more resistant areas, antibiotics can also be applied.

We are passionate about keeping our patients’ gums & teeth healthy. We closely monitor patients with gum disease because we believe the bone & gum are the foundation of your teeth. Having a good, healthy foundation will allow the teeth to stay strong & with you longer.
